THE GROUP
Hi, my name is Adriana, and InterTrek is a group of people from various nationalities that I created in January 2000.

I had this idea because I love hiking and meeting people from all over the world, so I thought it was a good idea to combine the two things.

At first I looked for people to help me organize hiking excursions to the Sierra of Madrid and trips to visit places of historical or natural interest in Spain.
Then, as the group grew bigger, we started doing other things together, going out for 'tapas', to the cinema, etc.
At present there are about 65 people in the group, a lot of people come and go, as they only live here temporarily, but there is a smaller group of 'regulars' who attend most of the time.
The members are of different ages, and there is no age limit.
As to the various nationalities, I am Italian, of course there are many Spanish people, and there are also people from Britain, Ireland, the USA, Norway, China, Australia, Sweden, Bulgaria and France.

HOW IT WORKS
The group works in this way: we have an intranet, that is a private web site, where the members have to register in order to become part of the group. This gives one the possibility of writing an e-mail to all the other members just with one click. There are also other features, such as discussion forums, etc. that can be used.  Any event is agreed upon and organized by the members all together, and any member can make a proposal by writing to all the others. So as you can see, you need to become involved actively. There is no: "What are the events scheduled for next month?", but "Why don't we do this next month?"
Another important point is that you need to have access to the internet, as we basically organize things and communicate that way.

Usually we go hiking at the weekend, on Sunday, occasionally on Saturday, we use public transport, sometimes the car. The level of the excursions varies, and you don't need to be an expert hiker, but certainly an enthusiastic one.

If you're interested in being on our intranet and in taking part in the organization of events, please click here, and I will send you an invitation e-mail.
